This is the horrific scene that left two people dead and four injured in a car accident at the weekend.
It’s part of four road accident fatalities reported by traffic authorities yesterday.
The R27 West Coast Road tragedy occurred between two vehicles after 8pm on Sunday.
Three people were trapped in the vehicles which claimed the lives of two men. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove the passengers.
Spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Services, Theo Layne, confirmed the incident.
“The City’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to the incident at 8:38pm on Sunday.
“I cannot confirm if it was a head-on collision or not. The roadway was closed in both directions while the extrication and treatment of the patients were carried out.”
He says two men sustained serious injuries and two other men were lightly injured.
Meanwhile, provincial traffic officers arrested 23 motorists in various areas for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday and Saturday.
Two speedsters were also apprehended, one clocking 191km/* in a 120km/* zone near Beaufort West, and the other travelling at 168km/* in a 100km/* zone near Swellendam. “A total of 343 speeding offences were recorded. Fines in the amount of R416 450 were issued for a variety of reasons, ranging from driver offences to vehicle fitness violations,” says Kenny Africa, Provincial Traffic Chief.
