TARGET: Tyger Manor Standard Bank branch in Durban Road

Without firing a single shot, two skelms got away from a Bellville bank with R48 000 on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a police source, the two men entered the Tyger Manor Standard Bank branch in Durban Road at about 2.50pm and handed a written note to a bank teller.

“Employees say the men entered the shop and gave the piece of paper demanding money from the teller,” says the source.

“It looks like the teller was first confused by the action but their intentions became clearer when one of the men showed their firearm.

“The other man apparently showed his firearm to others in the branch before money was handed over the till and the two men walked out of the bank again.”

The source said it was unknown whether they fled in a car or on foot while no shots were fired.

“The bank was closed for the rest of the day and traffic cops closed the road off which caused a lot of problems here in the area but the good thing was that nobody was hurt.”

Standard Bank spokesperson Ross Linstrom confirmed the robbery took place and said: “There were no injuries reported, however, counselling has been arranged for our staff in the branch.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the robbery and said the case had been handed over to the Hawks.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said details could not be shared yet due to the ongoing investigation.
