It was a grim start to the week for motorists in Mitchells Plain after they were backed up for nearly an hour following an accident involving a VW Citi Golf and two taxis on Monday morning.
The crash between the blue Golf and two white Quantum taxis resulted in road closures at Wespoort Drive and Eisleben Road just before 8am.
A witness at the scene says the taxi drivers were not to blame for the accident.
“That Golf driver was speeding heavy, like almost everyone does on the road here. He sped past us and the next thing I just saw the car spiraling out of control.
“The taxis weren’t even moving, but a few people were hurt.”
The witness says the Golf driver and people in surrounding vehicles were injured.
The City of Cape Town’s Traffic spokesperson, Richard Coleman, confirmed the incident.
He could, however, only account for two injuries.
“I can confirm a motor vehicle accident on Wespoort Drive and Eisleben Road on Monday morning. Two people injured, both drivers, and the taxis were empty,” Coleman said.
