Couple gunned down in a case of mistaken identity

Shock has spread across Vrygrond after an innocent couple was gunned down in their home on Saturday in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.
The heartbroken family of Michelle Muller, 46, say the mother of four collapsed on a bed after being shot by heartless skollies who also killed her boyfriend, Derek Adonis, 38.
Michelle is the sister-in-law of popular community worker and library hero, John Nicholson.
Residents living in Vuyo Street claim the couple were allegedly killed by gunmen of the Junky Funky Kids gang.
“Her son and his friends had a party there and the gangsters thought they were Flakka Boys and came to shoot the couple the next day because the Flakkas and the Funkys are fighting in this area,” says a resident who asked not to be named.
Daughter Ruchelle, 27, says her mother and Derek had gone shopping in Wynberg on Saturday morning.

“My mommy works as a home-based carer for a man in Newlands and Derek works in painting and construction,” she says.
“He is from Parkwood, but he comes to visit us regularly. They were together for about six years.
“I was walking home from my childrens’ father because my mother let me know she got us gatsbies when she went shopping.
“It was just after 12pm when people came running to me in the street and told me what happened.”
Ruchelle says she was left traumatised when she found her mother lying on a bed with a bullet wound in her chest, still alive.
“She still had a pulse, but as I started praying for her, she started turning cold.
“Derek was shot in his stomach and by his collarbone and was in the yard and he was still alive.
“The people tried to put him in a bakkie to take him to the hospital, but he died in the bakkie before they could drive.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the shooting and says: “A double murder is under investigation by Muizenberg SAPS.
“According to information, a male aged 38 and female were shot and killed in front of their room in Vuyo Street, Vrygrond on Saturday at around 12pm. No one has been arrested yet.”
Ruchelle says the family has left their home for safety.
“We are still in shock because we can’t understand why they were killed like that,” she says.
