Three hijackers, who held up a truck driver at gunpoint, are behind bars following swift action by wakker police and Law Enforcement officers on Monday.
Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says the dom skelms were caught after officers chased them along Swartklip Road, where they collided with a bakkie.
He says on Monday morning, officers were patrolling Mitchells Plain when they were approached by a resident who told them about a delivery truck that had been hijacked on the corner of AZ Berman and Highlands Drive.
“The members of the public pointed out the fleeing truck and Law Enforcement officers noted a police van was already in pursuit,” says Dyason.
“They joined the chase and while on Swartklip Road, the truck collided with a bakkie and the suspects fled on foot.
“SAPS arrested two suspects and a Law Enforcement officer arrested the third suspect and the trio were detained at Lentegeur Police Station.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the arrest and says the hijacking happened at 10am.
“The complainant was pointed with a firearm and instructed to drive in the direction of Mitchells Plain and they were followed by a Law Enforcement officer.
“Three suspects were caught and handed to police.”
