A group of women held a silent protest to voice their dissatisfaction with Franschhoek SAPS, demanding that harsh action be taken against a cop who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl and impregnated her.
The 55-year-old warrant officer is said to be in a sexual relationship with the teen.
A concerned neighbour tells the Daily Voice: “It’s sickening because her mother knows about this and she is not doing anything to protect her daughters.
“He has two children with the older sister and she was also a minor when she fell pregnant.
“And now he went to the 13-year-old, he is not ashamed, he is driving her up and down and taking her to school. She even sleeps in the police barracks.”
She added: “It is quite disappointing that the station commander has not yet taken internal disciplinary action against him.
“People are just gossiping about this and we decided to stand up against this.
“We went to see the station commander last week and asked what they are doing about this and nothing has been done even now.
“We handed over the memorandum to the station commander and we hope that he is relieved from his job.
“He is a danger to the children of Franschhoek. He is someone we should trust but we can’t.”
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says SAPS Western Cape has instituted an internal disciplinary process against the cop.
“At the same time the Stellenbosch Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is investigating a criminal case against the same individual,” she says.
“As the case relates to an alleged sexual offence involving a minor, no names will be disclosed at this stage of the investigation.”
