Constable Lukhanyiso Ndima, 28, from Manenberg SAPS and girlfriend, Yonela Sikeli, 26, spent the weekend behind bars after the scuffle at the Community Service Centre.
A police source says Ndima is in “groot k**” for losing his temper and moering a uniformed officer who he allegedly also threatened to kill.
“It happened on Saturday at Samora Machel Police Station,” explains the source.
“Him and his girlfriend went into the station and said they were allegedly assaulted by officers in the area.
“He was not on duty but walked into the station and told the cops they are uneducated and threatened that when they got off duty, they would be killed.
“He works with the Crime Prevention Unit at Manenberg and he will be in groot k** for assaulting another officer.”
The source says the girlfriend started punching an officer with her fist.
“Ndima then came and hit the cop on the chest, face and head and they arrested them both on common assault and intimidation cases.”
SAPS’ FC van Wyk, confirms the arrests and says: “They were arrested for assaulting a member over an argument in Samora Machel SAPS.
“The two (appeared) in Philippi Magistrates’ Court on (Monday) on assault and intimidation charges”.
Acting station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, says they were shocked when they heard about the ruckus.
“He came there because he wanted help from the police. I think something happened with his girlfriend,” he says.
“There was an argument with those there (at the station) and there was a scuffle.
“He assaulted the policemen and he was arrested.
“He will face disciplinary action and I have issued an instruction because he can’t do what he did. He is a member of the police.
“I am disappointed in him and all of us are in shock.”
