Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Detective Constable Lindekile Sikade
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Cape Flats cop.

The trio will appear in court today for allegedly killing Detective Constable Lindekile Sikade in April this year.

Hawks spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha says the three were nabbed on Monday afternoon in three different locations, “following relentless investigations”.

“[On Monday] afternoon just before 3pm members from the Hawks and SAPS Tactical Response Unit arrested three suspects linked to a fatal shooting earlier this year of [Sikade],” Lloyd says.

“The trio aged 28, 34 and 37 were arrested at different addresses in Lower Crossroads and Phillipi East.”

“They are expected to appear at Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court [today] facing a charge of murder.”

Constable Sikade was ambushed outside his house two months ago while on his way to work. His service pistol was stolen.

Sikade, who was stationed at Grassy Park SAPS Detective Unit, was wearing his official uniform and was in his official vehicle when the suspects shot and killed him in front of his house at about 6.15am in Hlosi Street, Philippi East.

Hawks spokesman Robert Netshiunda says the stolen firearm has been recovered and taken for a ballistic test.

More charges may also possibly be added to the three suspects’ charge sheet.

He commended detectives for their dedication and hard work in nabbing the suspects.

“Whoever is thinking of killing a cop, we will be all over them,” Robert said.

Constable Sikade’s brother Monde Sanda told the Daily Voice that the family had all but lost hope of the killers ever being caught.

“We are happy that people were finally arrested,” Monde says.

“It was bad for us in the sense that we were just sitting here thinking nobody cared about getting justice for my brother and even though the arrests happened after nearly two months, we are glad that these people will have their day in court.”

Constable Sikade left behind his wife and three children, the youngest just five months old.
