One of the alleged victims of a travel agent works for the College of Cape Town and was apparently swindled out of R788 000.
Suspect Crescenda “Chrissy” Meyer made her second appearance at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday where she looked tired.
State prosecutor Kagiso Kraai informed the court that they would be opposing Meyer’s bail appeal after her arrest on Thursday.
The court heard Meyer, who owns Breakaway Travel, would be launching her application tomorrow after spending the weekend in Pollsmoor Prison.
Meyer’s family members in court again tjanked snot en trane when they saw her emerging from the holding cells.
Last week newlyweds, Andre and Michelle Ford, opened a case with police after Meyer allegedly defrauded them out of R22 000 for their honeymoon to Thailand.
The couple also spent R20 000 on bags, clothing and transport.
But she was nabbed on another matter when detectives from Joburg tracked her down in Cape Town and arrested her.
Meyer’s modus operandi, according to the State, is to gain her clients’ trust, and then take their money and produce fake travel documents.
Sources close to the investigation reveal the victim in another Cape-based case is a representative for the College of Cape Town and that he was allegedly defrauded of R788 000.
The Johannesburg case relates to a woman who was promised a trip to Zanzibar and paid Meyer over R100 000.
