Clarissa Lindoor’s arm was broken two months before her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her to death last Saturday.
On Thursday, her devastated family revealed the 27-year-old mother had obtained an interdict against her berk, Diaan Swartz, 21, who has been arrested for her murder.
Her aunt, Joan Gideon, says despite the protection order, Swartz allegedly broke the young woman’s arm but she refused to have him locked up because “she loved him too much”.
Clarissa was a cleaner at the University of Stellenbosch (US) and lived on a farm in Cloetesville with Diaan and their two-year-old son.
Last Saturday, Clarissa’s body was discovered by farm workers on her bed.
Police say she had been stabbed to death.
ARRESTED: Diaan Swartz, 21
Neighbours had called the cops earlier, as Swartz was allegedly assaulting Clarissa.
People said they saw Swartz allegedly dragging her into the house, where he washed and dressed her and placed her in the bed.
When her mother arrived later, he claimed she was tieping as she was drunk.
Swartz made his first appearance in court this week and will be back in the dock on 27 September for a bail application.
Joan says: “He broke her arm after beating her up two months ago. When her manager spoke to her after the incident and asked if she had an interdict, she said she already had one but that she didn’t want to send him to jail because she loved him.”
US spokesman Martin Viljoen expressed shock at Clarissa’s death and said the university will be helping the family with funeral cost.
Clarissa will be laid to rest on 28 September.
“The fact that this murder occurred despite the current focus on gender-based violence in our country adds to our outrage,” SU Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Wim de Villiers said.
