A Kensington woman who reported her trailer stolen found out through Facebook that it was impounded by the City of Cape Town.
The Lovely Pets Mobile Grooming owner Emma Moni, 34, says the action by the Law Enforcement officers has resulted in her losing money.
She says on Saturday morning she woke up to find the grooming trailer gone and thought it was stolen.
“My husband reached out to the Facebook and WhatsApp crime groups. And then he told me that someone had posted that the trailer is in Ndabeni, it has been impounded.
“This is not right because we have not been approached by the City, and we had not received any warning in the past.”
Emma says they have to cough up fees to get her business running again.
She says: “We don’t know how much we have to pay. Since this happened on the weekend, no one could lead us in the right direction.
“This is upsetting because we had to cancel all the appointments we had for the weekend and it would have been a busy weekend.”
Emma tells the Daily Voice she has been running the grooming business since November: “We have not had any complaints even from the neighbours, but we will hear when we get to Ndabeni what we did wrong. The business is our source of income, without it there is no way we can survive and that is why we were worried it was stolen.
“We were very worried, my husband was driving up and down and all the while it was with the City of Cape Town.”
Maxine Bezuidenhout, Spokesperson for City Traffic Service says the trailer was not removed by Law Enforcement, but by the City of Cape Town's Traffic Service because it was obstructing the sidewalk.
“In addition the vehicle was not roadworthy and the registration on the trailer indicated it did not have the correct licence plates attached. The trailer can only be released to the registered owner, which in this case is not the complainant in the article. An official letter of the action is sent to the registered owner,” says Bezuidenhout.
