While malls in Cape Town are still on high alert for looters, a winkel was robbed at Somerset Mall yesterday.
Police are searching of four men who robbed a cellphone store in the mall and made off with phones and laptops through the centre’s emergency exit.
According to staff at Smerno, which specialises in Apple products, the brazen robbers entered the store at about 2.15pm with one of them forcing a female staff member to lie on the ground.
The winkel is situated right opposite Game.
The female staff member tells the Daily Voice: “I was alone in the front of the store while my colleagues were in the back room when they came in through the door and the one shouted that I must lie on the ground while he waved a gun around.
“I do not know if the other guys had a gun because I was lying on my stomach but they all grabbed stuff from the shelves and display cabinets.”
The staff member said the store had actual models, and not dummies, on their shelves and that the thieves spent a few minutes in the store grabbing the loot before running down the emergency exit passageway situated next to the store.
The woman said: “They took 13 phones, priced between R1200 to R5000, and eight Mac computers, priced between R19 000 to R40 000, from the shop and they also took my phone.”
Cop did not respond to queries by last night.
