The body of a suspected burglar was discovered on the rocks at Strandfontein Pavilion at first light on Saturday morning.
According to witnesses, the 42-year-old man had been chased by security guards after he and two others had attempted a break-in on Friday evening, and he had disappeared on the Pivvies.
The man was identified as Selwyn Mihekkie, who lives in Mitchells Plain.
When fishermen started arriving at the beach, they found the deceased, who had an injury to the head, washed up on the rocks.
It is believed he slipped off the tidal wall, hit his head and then drowned.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said Muizenberg cops confirmed the incident. “At 10am on Saturday, the body of a 42-year-old man was disco-
vered on the beach in what is believed to be a drowning incident.”
