Cops are investigating the death of an 18-year-old pupil who was stabbed outside his Hanover Park school yesterday.
The boy, who cannot be identified yet, was rushed to Hanover Park Day Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The teen was a pupil at Crystal High School.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says circumstances surrounding the boy’s death are under investigation.
“A case of murder has been opened for investigation after a stabbing incident that occurred at a school in Hanover Park,” Rwexana says.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation where an 18-year-old man was stabbed. He died on his way to a medical facility. Police are following up on leads in an effort to bring the perpetrators to book.”
Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, says the incident took place outside the school grounds.
“The school has reported that a learner was stabbed and unfortunately he died on admittance to hospital. The incident happened outside of the school premises.
“The WCED will engage with the school regarding counselling assistance.”
Allegations that the boy was stabbed during a stone throwing incident could not be confirmed by the WCED or police.
