Police have launched an investigation after an eight-year-old boy drowned at the public swimming pool in Langa on Monday.
According to police, the boy was swimming at the deep end of the pool at about 4.30pm when tragedy struck.
Shocked witnesses say there were “three to four
lifeguards on duty” but the boy unfortunately could not be resuscitated.
People stood looking on in horror as the pathology van collected the boy’s body.

Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says an inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
“Upon their arrival, members discovered the lifeless body of an eight-year-old boy next to the swimming pool.
“It is alleged that the boy was swimming in the deep of the pool and he ended up drowning,” Malo said.

Mayco Member for Community Services and Health, Zahid Badroodien, confirmed three lifeguards were on duty: “The lifeguard continued with CPR until emergency services arrived.
“Emergency services continued with CPR but unfortunately, the boy was declared deceased on site.”
