A Bonteheuwel skollie is behind bars after cops raided a well-known drug den and caught him with a gun and several rounds of ammunition.
The raid was a joint operation between the newly established Neighbourhood Safety Team (NST) and Bishop Lavis police who descended on the problematic property in Loganberry Street.
Ward councillor, Angus McKenzie, says the privately owned home has been overrun with gangsters after the owner moved out.
“The gangsters moved in and there have been numerous complaints about drug dealing at the property and the house is also at the centre of several shootings.
“On Friday morning the NST teams and Bishop Lavis SAPS went in and found five men on the property.
“One of them was found in possession of an illegal firearm and with fifteen 9mm rounds.
“He was caught with two magazines but the one was empty. He was arrested while the four others were profiled by police.”
A day earlier the NST teams also arrested an 18-year-old suspected drug mert in the same street who was caught with 25 packets of tik.
The team also made three drug arrests in Bluegum Avenue, Vaalbos and Rooihout streets since they took to the streets on Tuesday.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, confirms the arrests.
The NST project is part of the City of Cape Town’s R32m plan to make Bonteheuwel safer.
It was first established in Delft last year and saw 100 dedicated officers from various units, including the Stabilisation Unit, School Resource Officers, Neighbourhood Safety Officers, Gang and Drug Task Team and a violence interruption intervention team, team up.
