A 27-year-old Bonteheuwel father was shot and killed execution style just before 6 am on Thursday.
Luke Hendricks, who is married with one son, was shot multiple times in the face and head and died on the spot.
According to witnesses, three men had approached Hendricks on the corner of Bramble Way and Bonteheuwel Avenue and demanded money from him. He apparently said he did not have any and he was shot dead.
A friend of the young father, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed he had been stout when he was younger and was a member of the Bad Boys, but says he was no longer involved with any gangs.
“He is one of the few people who walked away from that and started his life over,” his friend says.
“He went to church and he took care of his family. He worked and he changed his whole life. He did not want to be a gangster, but even turning his life around could not save him in the end.
