SHOCKING: The lifeless body of a boy, 16, found in Schaapkraal SHOCKING: The lifeless body of a boy, 16, found in Schaapkraal
The farming community of Schaapkraal is reeling in shock after they found the body of a teenage boy lying in a ditch.
The body was found by children who were skarreling for food along Middle Road on Monday.
Police sources reveal the unidentified boy is believed to be around 16 years old.
He was only wearing boxer shorts and a red T-shirt and appeared to be very thin.
A resident, who runs a soup kitchen in the community, was called to the scene by the children.
The woman says they had noticed the boy sitting on a street corner a few days ago.
“At first we thought he might have been beaten up because on that field there was a fight recently,” she explains.
“I usually shout from my home if I see something happening or if they are busy using drugs.
“When we do call the police, they hardly come out.
“On Monday when the children who I usually feed came to my home, they said someone was lying there and I immediately alerted the police.”
The woman says she cautioned people not to go close to the body due the current Coronavirus pandemic, and was shocked when she took in the boy’s emaciated appearance.
“He is someone’s child and my heart is broken,” she says.
“I took one of my white sheets and asked the police to cover his body because that needed to be dignified, it was a human being laying there.”
Police sources say a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death: “He is estimated to be around 16 years old. At this stage there is nothing at the scene to indicate foul play.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms a death inquest has been opened for investigation.
