The body of a 16-year-old boy washed out at Monwabisi Beach on Tuesday morning.
The body is believed to be that of a boy who drowned at the popular beach last Friday.
Swimmers had alerted Law Enforcement about the teen who was struggling in the water.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon said when they arrived at the beach, the boy was nowhere to be found and it is believed he was washed out to sea.
The body that washed out yesterday had large white patches which might have been caused by staying too long into the water.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said a death inquest has been opened for investigation.
There have been three recorded drownings in Cape Town since Friday.
The body of a man washed up on Friday at Mnandi beach.
It is believed the man drowned at the beach the Sunday prior.
Lambinon said: “The body has been taken into the care of police and Western Cape Government Health Pathology Services.
“Police have opened an inquest docket.”
Some residents have blamed the lack of lifeguards for the drownings.
The City’s Safety and Security Executive Director Richard Bosman said a comprehensive festive season safety plan is rolled out each year.
“It is also worth noting that the festive season will likely look very different this year as a result of Covid-19 and the continued state of disaster.”
