Police have launched an inquest after skeletal remains were found on a farm in Durbanville on Tuesday morning.

Police believe the unidentified person may have committed suicide after a farm worker found the body just before 9am in Klein Roosboom Road.

A farm worker was busy trimming branches when he came across what looked like a “bag of bones”.

On closer inspection, the farm worker found it to be a human skeleton, fully clothed and lying in the bushes.

The skull was loose from the body and it appeared to have a strong plastic wire material around the neck and in the jacket person of the unidentified person.

Provincial police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says the circumstances of the person’s death are currently under investigation by Durbanville SAPS.

“Kindly be advised that an inquest docket has been opened for investigation following a skeleton that was found on Tuesday at 8.45am by the farm worker in Klein Roosbom Road in Durbanville,” he said.

“According to information, the farmer worker was busy cutting off the branches that were obstructing his path next to the road and he found the skeleton with clothes on and the skull loose from the body.

“It is alleged that the deceased person maybe committed suicide as the fishing line was wrapped around a branch nearby the skeleton.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” Malo said.
