The body of a woman was found at Diep River station on Tuesday. Police said Allison Arendse, believed to be from Grassy Park, was found dead late in the afternoon.
The cause of death was unclear. Allison, who was in her fifties, had been visiting her mother at a nearby hospital before she mysteriously disappeared.
Her family reported her as missing. The family did not want to comment on Wednesday.
Metrorail spokeswoman Riana Scott said they were unaware of any incidents at the train station.
“We have no record of the find,” Scott said.
Police could not specify how and by whom the body was found.
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said an inquest had been opened into the death but did not confirm the dead woman’s identity.
“A death inquest case has been opened for investigation following the discovery of the body of an unidentified person in her fifties,” Rwexana said.
This is the second body found at Diep River station in less than a year.
Gill Packham, 56, who was a teacher at Springfield Convent, was reported missing on 23 February, after she failed to arrive at work.
Her charred remains were found in the boot of her green BMW on the same night. The car had been set alight with her in it.
Her husband, Rob Packham, 57, was later arrested. He is currently awaiting trial behind bars.
