The body of a missing woman, Sakina Grimwood, from Newlands, has been found on Table Mountain.

The 32-year-old woman, who was a lecturer at Varsity College, was last seen leaving her home at 1.30pm on Wednesday.

According to the Western Cape Missing Persons Unit, Sakina, who attended Westerford High School, suffered from bipolar disorder.

While the Grimwood family are at peace, they said the pain and heartbreak of her death would never leave them, reports Weekend Argus.

Sakina’s body was found on Friday at the bottom of a steep cliff at Platteklip Gorge on Tabltve Mountain after she apparently slipped and fell.

Her funeral was held on Sunday morning.

Sister Zahira said: “Our family is devastated because Sakina was really a darling of the family. She was very different - not materialistic and passionate about human rights and the environment. She’s the reason I got involved in civil society.”

Sakina obtained an M.Phil focused on environmental law from the University of Cape Town in 2011, after completing her law degree two years before.

She was a law lecturer at Varsity College and she completed her articles at Webber Wentzel about 4 years ago.

“She was also very musical and was a great solo singer in the high school jazz band and I always remember her singing the line, ‘The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return’,” said Zahira.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
