Two people are dead and one wounded after gunmen struck at a New Year’s Eve jol in Scottsville.
Nathan Corner, 30, and Jayden Atkins, 17, were killed, while a third victim, a 37-year-old woman, is in hospital after she was shot in the head.
Police say three shooters struck at the house party in Orchard Street at about 2am.
Porcia Corner, a family member of Nathan, says: “We were at a house party. Nathan heard shots go off and ran out of the house.
“He tried to stop the gunman and was shot. When I got to him, he was dead. A young guy was still alive.
“Nathan wasn’t on drugs but he would drink and smoke.”
Jayden’s oupa, William Atkins, says: “He told me and his ma Irene that he was going to a house party but that he would be home at 10pm.
“I got the family together because none of us had been taken by the cold hand of death in 2021. We went to bed after prayers.”
William says a woman called after 2am to say Jayden had been shot.
“When we got to Orchard Street where the two bodies lay, Jayden was still alive.
“He looked terrible and I didn’t want his ma to see him like that.
“The shock would have been too much.
“We don’t know why he was shot, but we want the law to take its course.
He appealed for police presence in Frans Conradie Drive.
“It would make a big difference to the violence in Scottsville, and it would be safe for people to walk.”
