Five people were bust for stock theft in Wellington after cops found sheep hidden under mattresses in a bakkie.

The skaapdiewe were nabbed after cops stopped to help them with their bakkie, which had stuck in Blignaut Street in the Boland town.

“The members spotted a stationary LDV in Blignaut Street and stopped to offer their assistance with the breakdown of the vehicle,” says Lt.Col. Andrè Traut.

“Upon further inspection of the vehicle, the members noticed three males lying on a mattress on the back of the vehicle. The situation seemed suspicious and prompted an investigation which led to the discovery of three sheep under the mattress.”

He said four men and a woman were arrested on a charge of stock theft and will appear in court soon.
