The City of Cape Town is offering a R 5000 reward for information after several of its employees were attacked in Gugulethu this week.
Two City employees from the Electricity Department are in a stable condition while one is still in a critical condition following an attack on Tuesday.
“The City of Cape Town absolutely condemns the violent attack on three City employees from the Electricity Department that occurred at approximately 12 pm in Gugulethu,” said the City’s Xanthea Limberg.
“They were attending to electricity services. A group attacked the workers.”
She said a City vehicle was damaged while another government vehicle was also torched.
“It is absolutely heartbreaking that these are the conditions that our staff and contractors have to work under.
“The City is wholly dedicated to providing top service delivery. However, often the conditions on the ground make it impossible for City staff to perform their duties.
“Many of our departmental staff and contractors are risking their lives on a daily basis to provide services to our communities.
“The victims of the attack are in our thoughts and we are investigating how the City can assist these workers and their families.”
Limberg asked if anyone in the community has information about this attack, to please approach SAPS.
