Hout Bay youth received scholarships to help them get an education but need funding for their stationery requirements.
Youth activist Roscoe Jacobs, from Hangberg, is now reaching out to mense to assist with a stationery drive for the disadvantaged youth.
Roscoe says the recipients form part of the Hout Bay Hurricanes Basketball Club, which works closely with 790 Youth Recreation Club, a registered NPC.
“It offered members of the Basketball Club support with homework, school projects and made available the Sports Centre during the June and December exam period.
“As a result, some of the participants exceeded our expectations by excelling academically and in basketball and
getting scholarship offers as a result.
“Although many of this youth come from disadvantaged backgrounds, our request is not to assist them because they are disadvantaged but because they are committed and passionate about building a better future for themselves and their families.
“They recognise the importance of education,” he said.

Roscoe says support has been lacking in their community.
“We complain that our kids are involved in the negative economy like gangsterism and violence but when it comes to supporting young people involved in positivity in our communities, there isn’t much support.
“We haven’t received much in terms of financial contributions yet, we received some items in the trolley we put here at the Spar and Pick n Pay.”
Drop off points are at Hout Bay SuperSpar and Pick n Pay, alternatively, donations can be made into the club’s bank account, details which can be found on their Facebook page.
