A gun-toting skelm from Delft is behind bars after he was nabbed by Law Enforcement officers on Wednesday.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says the 34-year-old man is a member of the notorious Mara gang which operates in Delft South and “specialises” in armed robberies.
Dyason says shortly after 5pm, officers of the Neighbourhood Safety team members were patrolling Delft Main Road with SAPS when they spotted the skollie who started to run when he saw them.
“The officers gave chase on foot and caught him behind a house in Olien Street, Delft South. He was asked why was running from the authorities and he said it was because he was armed.
“Officers searched him and found a Norinco 45 pistol with three live rounds in the magazine.”
Dyason says he was also found in possession of six cellphones.
“He was found with various cellphones which have not been reported stolen or missing. The firearm was also tested but no results are available yet.
“He was charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.”
“The suspect arrested is part of the Mara gang, a well-known gang in Delft South that specialises in armed robberies,” Dyason says.
