Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Cape Flats rapper Chad du Plessis, aka CDP.
However, the victim’s father is upset after two of the suspects were granted bail by the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
David Talmakkies and Garth Lamba both got R3000 bail.
Talmakkies was arrested on 21 December while Lamba was nabbed on 2 March. They return to court on 29 April.
The third suspect was arrested on Tuesday and is due to appear in court this week.
Chad, 22, was outside his brother’s house in Strandfontein when five men attacked him just after midnight on 5 December last year.
He was about to pull into the driveway when he was approached by five unknown men.
An argument ensued and he was stabbed.
Chad was a member of Beeza CPT, a band of three brothers who had just released a mixtape, titled Definition of a Rockstar.
His father Collin du Plessis says the suspects should also be charged with attempted murder.
“I am upset (about the bail),” Collin tells the Daily Voice.
“I spoke with the prosecutor about this and I was told about procedures.
“For me, I feel like my child’s life came second. My eldest son was stabbed and hit with a brick during the incident. That, for me, is attempted murder.”
The Strandfontein CPF is equally unhappy and said they will picket outside court at the next appearance on 29 April.
We are disgusted with the Department of Justice for the leniency towards those that robbed him of his life and were granted R3000 bail.
“We are thankful for the hard work by the Strandfontein SAPS detective in securing their arrests,” says CPF chairperson Sandy Schuter.
