A Mitchells Plain family has slammed police for failing to arrest their son’s killers after more than two weeks.
They say despite video footage of the shooting leading to the death of an innocent salesman in Eastridge being handed to police, no progress has been made while the skollies walk free in the community.
Lamont Burricks, 28, was killed on 2 April in Sourfig Street after being mistaken for a gangster.
Eastridge residents say members of the Fancy Boys and Junior Mafia gangs have been embroiled in violent gang fights.
Lamont’s family said he had been on his way to take food to a needy person.
He was shot in the head and the chest and robbed of his phone, and his family was given his bus ticket holder which was covered in blood.
His funeral was held at Beacon Valley on 7 April and he was laid to rest at Plumstead Cemetery.
Cousin Kim Mulder, 42, says: “His mom Beverley, 51, is not well. Last week she came face-to-face with the killer and he stared her down.
“We don’t understand why SAPS is dragging their feet or what the delay is in arresting anybody. These guys walk around freely as if they are untouchable”.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms that no arrests have been made.
He said the investigation is continuing but did not respond to questions about the footage.
Meanwhile, the family is still offering a R5 000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Lamont’s killers.
If you have information, call Detective Constable Morgan de Bruin on 082 777 8076.
