The man accused of shooting his ex and injuring their daughter in the foot has applied for bail in the Western Cape High Court after bail was denied in the lower courts.
Wayne Lawrence, 40, handed himself over to the police on 13 December 2017, two days after he had allegedly shot dead his ex, Angela Marinus, as she pulled into the driveway of her parents’ home in Montevideo.
His then 16-year-old daughter was struck in the foot by one of two bullets that had hit her mother.
On Tuesday, the court heard that Lawrence owned two licenced firearms, but only one had been found in a safe at his father’s home.
The second firearm is still unaccounted for. It has not been revealed which of the two weapons had been used in the shooting.
Angela had moved out after they broke up and also had a protection order against Lawrence.
ACCUSED: Wayne Lawrence, 40
She had been in a new relationship and Lawrence had threatened her boyfriend with a firearm in front of their daughter just two months before the mom was killed.
Defence attorney, William Booth, said Lawrence had a history of anxiety and depression and was currently not getting his medication at Goodwood Prison.
But Prosecutor, Advocate Evadne Kortje, believes his daughter would be in danger as the girl was present when Lawrence allegedly shot her mother and she was included in the protection order.
Booth claims the parents were busy with mediation at the time of the incident.
Judge Nolwazi Boqwana will deliver her verdict this week.
