WHILE families bury loved ones after more killings in Mitchells Plain and Mfuleni, the Democratic Alliance has slammed the ANC for saying "no" to more cops innie Kaap.
Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating a triple murder in the Covid informal settlement in Mfuleni, where three men aged 21, 31 and 40 were shot and killed inside a shack on 5 July.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said no arrests have been made.
Over the same weekend, cops also seized prohibited firearms and ammunition in Somerset West, Delft, Atlantis and Beacon Valley.
But despite the bloodshed, the ANC in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) shut down a motion last week that called for better policing in the province.
The motion tabled by DA MP Nicholas Gotsell following an exchange with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in May saw the latter call for “extraordinary measures” on the Cape Flats and other high-risk areas.
Gotsell called for the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) to be beefed up to fight gangs and drugs, but the ANC blocked the motion.
He states: “The ANC went further to object to the motion through their whip in the Select Committee on Security and Justice.
“The ANC’s rejection of this motion is tantamount to voting against citizens who live in fear every day. There is no question why the ANC would vote against such a motion – it does not care about the safety of people in the Western Cape.”
