An emotional mom says her daughter has been murdered by her abusive boyfriend.
Nozuko Mbovane, 47, explains that she was called to the scene where 24-year-old Sinathi Magqazana was found in the suspect’s Marikana home in Hermanus.
She says: “Around 11am on Saturday, some youngsters came to inform us about my daughter’s death.
“We hurried to the shack and when we got there, she was lying on the floor. He had put half of her body in a black plastic bag.
“When we removed the plastic, we could see her face had abrasions and in the back of the ear she had a wound.
“Her pants and underwear were around her thighs.”
The devastated mother says there was a hammer near the body.
“The police took the hammer with them to test it and see if it was the murder weapon.
“There was nothing at the scene to indicate that the murder happened there,” she adds.
Neighbour Anita April says that Sinathi, who is a mother of a three-year-old boy, had been in an abusive relationship.
“Just a month ago, she came home with a bruised eye and she tried to hide the assault from us.
b“When we saw them walking together, we didn’t think to question her about taking him back because we didn’t suspect that he would end up killing her.”
On Monday, the residents marched to Hermanus Magistrates’ Court and were disappointed when they found out that the man would not be in the dock.
“We were told that there was a Covid-19 positive case and he would just make a brief appearance and then go back to court next Monday.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirms: “A 23-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the murder.”
