An alleged drunk taxi driver saw his gat on Sunday evening when cops arrested him after he rammed into SEVEN vehicles in Lotus River.
The 21-year-old padvark from Grassy Park was speeding in the white
Quantum taxi down 5th Avenue just after 8pm.
But his need for speed soon ground to a halt when Grassy Park cops nabbed him on the corner of 5th Avenue and Old Strandfontein Road after he crashed into the vehicle of a female driver.
In a 24-second video, the snotgat driver can be seen
sitting handcuffed.
A cop can then be heard explaining to someone how they caught the speed freak.
The officer said they
followed the suspect from Klip Road, down a side street and then onto 5th Avenue.
“He saw us chasing him and we followed him here as he went over the red robots. We’ve been monitoring him since Klip Road already.
“He drove over the red robots. I told [my partner to] slack [and to let us just] watch him. We came around here and he drove into this woman,” the cop is heard saying on the video.
A second video shows the taxi and smashed side of the woman’s car.
Chairperson of the
Schaapkraal Community
Safety Forum, Redaa Ameeroedien, who was on the scene, says the suspect drove into seven cars in 5th Avenue.
“He crashed into the cars and just drove on as usual. He crashed into seven cars before he came to a standstill and was arrested.
“This is totally irresponsible
behaviour from this
youngster. People could have died, he is lucky he came out in one piece. Fortu-
nately no one was injured,”
Ameeroedien says.
Police spokesperson,
Captain FC van Wyk,
confirmed the driver was arrested.
“A case of drunken driving and reckless and negligent driving is under investigation, after an incident on Sunday, at 8.30pm in Strandfontein Road, Lotus River.
“The driver of the vehicle was taken for (alcohol) testing. The suspect is 21 years old and lives in Grassy Park,” Van Wyk confirmed.
