In a continuing anti-crime crackdown by members of the Mitchells Plain cluster region, 618 suspects were nabbed in the week from July 15 to July 21.
Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said a total of 242 suspects had been arrested for possession of drugs during stop and search operations and 87 houses were searched for drugs.
During these operations 1071g dagga‚ 306 mandrax tablets‚ 430g tik and 127g heroin were confiscated.
Eighteen suspects were arrested for domestic violence-related cases and 33 motorists were issued fines amounting to R25 500 in total for traffic violations. Twenty one premises were also searched to prevent the illegal sale of liquor.
“Tracing operations resulted in 47 arrests of wanted persons during 31 operations conducted. Police members visited 1002 Spaza shops‚ mostly owned by foreign nationals‚ resulting in two firearms being confiscated and three suspects being arrested for possessing illegal firearms‚” Van Wyk added.
Mitchells Plain Cluster Commander‚ Major-General Gregory Goss said police would maintain a zero tolerance approach in the prevention and investigation of crime.
