Three cable skelms from Manenberg are in jail after cops raided their home and caught them with a moerse stash of telecommunications cables.
Acting station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, says cops raided the Wendy house shortly after 8am along with Law Enforcement officers after residents piemped the men who are alleged members of the Americans gang.
“According to the tip-off, the men were inside a Wendy house in Letaba Street busy stripping the wires,” says Zama.
“When they arrived, they saw one of the suspects throwing something under the bed and realised that is where the stash was.
“When they lifted the bed, they found all the wires which still had its casings on.”
EVIDENCE: An officer carrying a load of the stash
Zama says the three men were taken to the station where it was revealed they were wanted on other charges.
“At this stage we can confirm they are telecommunications cables, but it is not clear whether it belongs to Telkom or Prasa, so we are waiting on them to come and identify the cables.
“When questioned, they claimed that they found the cables on an open field.”
MANG TOE: Suspect cuffed
Later in the morning, officers received another tip-off that there were more cables in a shack behind the Wendy house and returned to find more cables and a saw used by the suspects.
Zama says they are expected to appear in court soon.
