Ladles of Love is once again calling on Capetonians to help them feed the nation.
The organisation recently collected 304 583 sandwiches for Mandela Day, breaking a record.
Their target was to make 125 000 sandwiches in one day, but they smashed the South African record.
Now, Ladles of Love is asking mense to join in on their ‘sarmiethon’ this weekend.
Founder Danny Diliberto says funds have dried up.
And to fire up people’s passion for giving, he is embarking on a 24-hour ‘sarmiethon’ in an effort to raise money.
Danny has committed to making sandwiches for 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
The event will take place on the Sea Point Promenade.
“Our hope is that this sarmiethon will create massive awareness and bring in the funds we need,” says Diliberto.
“I will be making sandwiches for a 24-hour period and will be ‘sold off’ using Quicket to raise funds driving the call to action for donations.”
“We understand that without ongoing funding our operation is not sustainable, but the hunger is here now and if we are not careful we could have our next pandemic so much bigger than Covid-19, and this pandemic is called starvation.”
Ladles have partnered with Work & Co and will be using their NOVA workspace movable van from where Danny will make the sandwiches on Sea Point promenade.
Ladles will be selling sarmiethon slots every half hour at R150 per slot – with the message “donate R150 and feed someone for a month”.
Mense can buy a slot via Quicket.
