A MACASSAR man is vas on drug charges after he was caught with R4 450 se stash at the home of his skelmpie in the Northern Cape dorpie of Nababeep.
Police arrested married Riedewaan “Remmy” Juries (33) and his skelmpie Kayla Damon (27) at a house in Bo Street, Nababeep.
The house belongs to the late grandparents of Kayla. She and Riedewaan have a child together.
Members of the police acted on information previously received regarding suspected drug dealing at the property in this copper mining town.
According to info, Riedewaan took a taxi to Namakwaland last Friday.
In the same taxi, he was noticed by someone who previously lived in Nababeep. After arriving in Nababeep last Saturday, he checked into a lodging place.
According to police spokesperson captain Ivan Magerman, he was caught during the early horse last Sunday at around 2.15am by the cops.
Magerman reported: “The police acted on the information and quickly took action during a search and seizure operation.
“The officers seized drugs with an estimated street value of R4 450, as well as cash, allegedly from drug sales.”
Kayla’s aunt Celine Links, originally from Nababeep but now also lives in Macassar, is kwaad after her niece’s arrest.
She told the Daily Voice: “Kayla is seeing Riedewaan, even though she knows he is gehooks. It is very wrong, because we were not raised that way.
“She’s got a hoergees, and besides that, she is now using my parents’ house as a drug nes.”
Meanwhile, Ronlin Juries, Riedewaan se vrou, said that he left last weekend without saying goodbye, leaving her to look after a two-month-old baby and their two other children.
Ronlin said: “I accepted him and trusted him after sy kindmaak in my marriage. And on Friday night het hy net weggehol Nababeep toe, without saying anything.”
Ronlin says she has already been to Nababeep to ask Damon to leave her husband alone, but without any success.
Both suspects have already appeared in the Springbok magistrate’s court on charges related to drug trafficking and possession. Their next court date is on 1 December.
