FOUND DEAD: Alvina Faro and Jannie Wilskut

IN A tragic apparent lovers’ quarrel, a Boland rugby referee is suspected of killing his girlfriend and then taking his own life.
The bodies of Jannie Wilskut and his partner Alvina Faro were found in a pool of blood after he had apparently shot her and then turned the gun on himself on Tuesday night.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident.
He said: “De Doorns police registered a murder and inquest following an incident on 16 September at 11.55pm at a premises in Suncity Street, Sunnyside Orchard, De Doorns.
“Two persons, a female aged 35 and male aged 40 were found deceased in the house. Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation. A Girson 9mm pistol with ammunition were handed in as exhibit.”
A series of video messages found on Faro’s phone and shared widely online, paints the story behind the shocking suspected murder-suicide.
In them, Wilskut says he is ready to end his life and shows how he plans to do it.
In the first video he appears with a black rope around his neck.

He says: “Bye. En ek hoop jy geniet dit saam met wie ever, saam wat ever. Bye.
“Hulle almal se ma se p***te…
“Ek het nie ‘n lewe nie. Ek weet’ie wat en wie ek issie.”
In a second video, after the rope apparently broke, he is seen apparently drinking poison.
A third video sees Wilskut saying that the “tou, pil, en gif het nie gewerk nie”, before saying that a bullet “sal miskien nie misluk nie”.
In another video, he told Faro: “Ek is seer. Ek is rerig seer. Ek was nog nooit so leef vir iemand nie.”
The Boland Rugby Union said it was saddened by the tragedy, sending their condolences to both Wilskut and Faro’s families.
A statement reads: “The Boland Rugby Union expresses its profound sadness at the passing of one of its esteemed referees, Jannie Wilskut, who tragically passed away earlier this week.
“Known for his unwavering dedication and passion for the sport, Jannie was an integral part of the Boland Referees Association for over a decade.
“He was a familiar presence on the rugby field, officiating numerous matches and earning respect from players and coaches alike.
“His vibrant personality, affable nature, and willingness to enhance the sport and community of rugby will be fondly remembered.
“The Boland Rugby Union has also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Alvina Faro, whose legacy is revered by many.”
