A Kewtown youngster hosted 200 mothers on Saturday to not only celebrate Mother’s Day but also to give something back to his community.
Chevano Frans, 22, said: “I am committed to helping the people in my community and to give them a hand up and not a hand down.
“I believe that there are not enough people out there that make use of their skills to help others.”
Chevano has hosted multiple events since starting his non-profit organisation Chev’s Kitchen in April 2020.
“I am a third-year business administration student at a business school in Woodstock and one of the main lessons that they teach there is to pay it forward.
“In March we had an Easter event where we handed out sweets to the local children and we have events planned for Youth Day in June and Women’s Day in August.”
Chevano says 200 moms, aged between 45 and 80, were handed food parcels of akhni, chicken, vegetables and potatoes from his home in Eland Street, Kewtown.

“We had tables in front of the house with chairs for the older mothers while the younger ones sat on the grass while they waited for their food.
“Because of Covid regulations we could not allow them to sit and eat the food at the house, so instead we just gave it to them to take home.
“Our organisation is just myself and five volunteers from my road while we also have private donors helping us.”
