The Democratic Alliance yesterday welcomed more than 350 ANC members into the party.
In Khayelitsha, “more than 200 members” of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) joined the DA.
DA Western Cape Deputy Leader Bonginkosi Madikizela and DA Deputy Metro Chairpersons, Anroux Marais, Phandile Maxiti and Daylin Mitchell welcomed the new members in Khayelitsha.
The DA said: “This is a bold move by the SANCO members, which reiterates that people are tired of the ANC’s false promises and lack of delivery.”
Meanwhile, in KwaZulu-Natal more than 150 card carrying African National Congress members cancelled their membership and signed up to the DA in Welbedacht, Durban.
“The new members have become disillusioned with the ANC’s corruption and chose the DA as their new political home,” DA KwaZulu-Natal leader Zwakele Mncwango said.
“They claim their attempts to fight corruption within the organisation had fallen on deaf ears as the ANC leaders are fighting among themselves over positions.
“Transparency in issuing of tenders and allocation of jobs and houses was also a contributing factor,” he said.
