Skollies got a surprise visit from the City’s special investigators over the weekend as they hunted for a murder suspect.
Following their reinstatement, the Safety and Security Investigations Unit (SSIU) hit the streets on Friday night in the search for a gunman at the request of police.
They raided various houses occupied by members of the SixBob and Junky Funky gangs in Lotus River, Parkwood, Steenberg and Lavender Hill.
In Duiker Avenue, residents told the Daily Voice that the house being raided is a “pella-pos”.
“They come and drug here and bring all the gangsters to our road. We are happy to see them skut that house because it is a pella-pos,” a woman said.
The unit was joined by the Metro Police’s Gang and Drugs Task Team (GDTT) which arrested two people, including a 16-year-old Hanover Park girl who was found in possession of dagga and mandrax.
“Dit is nie myne nie, daai ou het dit in my sak gesit,” she said as her mother took her valuables before she was arrested.
Officers also nabbed a 21-year-old man in Steenberg who was found with two bags of dagga and crushed mandrax.
At Steenberg Police Station, the ou said: “Ek het geskrik, ja. Hulle was vinnig. I smoke, but I don’t smokkel.”
Officers did not find the suspect they were looking for and said details around the case are confidential.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the SSIU will now be focusing on tracing ops to help SAPS find highflyers.
“Instead of the general operations focusing on gang activity after a flare-up, the unit focuses on specific cases after a request and they are engaging the Hawks.”
