Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the arson attack that gutted 18 carriages worth R61 million at Cape Town train station on 28 November.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says the two, aged 14 and 15, were nabbed after footage of the attack was released on social media platforms.
The 14-year-old from Elsies River was reportedly recognised by a fellow schoolmate who alerted a teacher on
Monday.
A member of the Elsies River Community Policing Forum said according to the boy’s ouma, he admitted to setting the train alight.

The learner reportedly told his grandmother that he was threatened by the second suspect, from Delft, who said if he didn’t cooperate, his family would be hurt.
The 15-year-old was arrested in Delft on
Monday night.
They appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Wednesday.
Potelwa says the duo were remanded in juvenile custody until their next court appearance.
