Two 15-year-old boys were shot and wounded by an unknown gunman in Elsies River while on their way to school on Wednesday.
The incident happened in Northmead Court in Clarke Estate, where one of the boys was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the lower back.
Veronica Rossouw, the grandmother of Lyle Rossouw who was shot in the leg, says she heard gunshots moments after her grandchild stepped out of the house at about 7.30am.
“I was busy in the kitchen and when I heard the shots he had just stepped out.
“I went out and found him standing while his friend was on the ground.”
The ouma says she “lost it” and called her husband who rushed the teens to the day hospital.
“They were transferred to Tygerberg Hospital and their parents are with them,” she said.
On Monday, a man was shot in the face in the same court. He survived the shooting.
Veronica says that person had just been released from jail on parole.
She says Lyle’s father died two years ago after being shot as he was leaving Tygerberg hospital.
“I wish I knew what led to the children being shot, they are innocent young children,” the granny says.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the incident: “An attempted murder case has been opened for investigation after two learners, both aged 15, were shot and wounded.
“Police responded to the complaint and were informed that the victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
“Police detectives are following up on leads in order to arrest the suspects.”
