Sunday night’s elimination round of the TV talent show also saw the last of Luke Lovemore, when he landed in the danger zone with the least number of votes.
But Craig, 23, had no such worries.
On Sunday night, the Elsies River klong honoured the late singer Prince with his rendition of Purple Rain, that earned him a standing ovation from all four coaches.
“I for one gave you advice but you stuck to your guns, and lit this room on fire!” Lira said. “Always believe in yourself!”
Bobby thought this was one of the best versions of the song he has “ever heard”, and that Craig “nailed it".
It was a proud moment for Craig’s mentor, Kahn, who described his performance as "art".
“What you did tonight felt like a keepsake, like a piece of art,” said Kahn.
Craig was overwhelmed by the response from both judges and the audience.
“I was very stressed out about singing such a big song,” he said.
“Prince is a legend, and Purple Rain is an iconic song, but so many of my supporters wanted to me to sing it. I also felt that it was time to push myself and take a risk because that is the only way you can grow.
“Halfway through the song, everyone in the theatre was on their feet, and at the end of the song all the coaches were standing. I have never experienced anything like that ever before,” he said.
Craig’s mother, Jennifer Lucas, says she was “speechless”.
“Craig, once again you nailed it. Thank you everyone for supporting my son. Please keep on voting to keep him in the competition,” she says.
Voting continues until 10pm tonight. To vote for Craig, SMS 01 to 33692.
