Cape Flats drag diva extraordinaire Manila Von Teez is giving mense a kwaai online show with live performances on Facebook during lockdown.
The first show, a free 14-minute performance shared on Wednesday night, was complete with frenetic wig and costume changes.
Manila, who is spending her lockdown with her boyfriend Shadwick Southgate at their Goodwood home, says she is already gatvol after a week indoors.
“Drag and cabaret performance is my creative outlet and it’s become frustrating not being able to do that,” she says.
“I’ve now resorted to entertaining people online and got the chance to work on projects I’ve been procrastinating on for months.”
In the live mini-concert, Manila performed three songs including Big White Room by Jessie J, All Dressed in Love by Jennifer Hudson and Drop Dead Gorgeous by Alyssa Edwards.
“For this performance, I wore three wigs at once with two in one outfit,” she says.
“I love entertaining people, so it gave me great pleasure doing this video.”
While in lockdown, Manila is also building a lace-front wig from scratch and posts them on Facebook for people to vang tips.
“It’s projects that I haven’t had time to do because I have been so busy. Now that we have time, I’m able to finish them.
“Like a wig I made from scratch that’s been in the making for almost a year I finally got to finish revamping of costumes, sewing tips and tips in general.”
