With the 21-day lockdown keeping mense cooped up inside their homes, social media has become the space for people to operate.
Like social media sensation and comedian Jamie Barthus, who has created a new music video inspired by the nationwide lockdown.
The song called We Are The Change is a reboot of 1980s hit, We Are The World, and has received over 70 000 views in two days.
Jamie, 28, explains: “I created this song for people to realise the serious effect that the lockdown can have if we all obey the rules, and also it was sad to see people not obeying the law.”
The student nurse, says he takes the Coronavirus pandemic seriously and is locked down with his family in Steenberg.

“ I have a five-year-old son who is living with his mom and I’m in lockdown with my parents, my sister and two nieces and our five dogs.”
Jamie wrote the lyrics and made the video on the same day, 28 March: “I put my camera on my tripod at an open curtain in my room and recorded myself. “
“I am happy that the people are taking it seriously by viewing it and commenting and hope I have made a point.”
The chorus of the song goes: ‘We are the change to beat this virus, We are the ones who make a brighter day so let’s start believing. There’s a choice we’re making to save our humanity, so please stay indoors for you and me.”
Jamie, who was a member of the spoof group the Funny Boy Band, says the lockdown has given him the opportunity to write more.
“I keep myself busy by writing lyrics for future songs and I am getting into contact with fans whom I could not in the past, due to my studies,” he says.
“I am busy all the time playing my guitar, spending time with family who I stay with and just taking it a day at a time.
“But I am not coping well with not being able to physically hug my son, Toby, who does not live with me, but we video call every now and then.”
