CELEBRITIES brought the hype around the all-star female space flight crashing back down to earth.
Pop star Katy Perry led a star-studded crew in an fully-automated mission in billionaire Amazon owner Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket on Monday.
The fight also included Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, 50 and Oprah Winfrey’s 70-year-old bestie Gayle King as they took a short journey to mark the first all-female spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova's solo trip in 1963.
But other female celebs were not impressed, blasting it as nothing more than a duur publicity stunt.
Model Emily Ratajkowski said the mission was “beyond parody”.
In a TikTok video, Emily blasted off, saying: “That space mission? That’s end time s***. Like, this is beyond parody.
“Saying that you care about Mother Earth and it’s about Mother Earth, and you’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that’s singlehandedly destroying the planet?
“Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources went into putting these women into space. For what? What was the marketing there?" (sic)
Olivia Munn, 44, was one of the first stars to ridicule the “gluttonous” mission earlier this month.
The X-Men star said on the Today With Jenna & Friends” on 3 April: “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”
“I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it’s so much money to go to space, and there’s a lot of people who can’t even afford eggs.”
“What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. “Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
As well as Katy, Gayle, and Lauren, the crew for the 11-minute flight was rounded off by aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, 39, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, 34, and film producer Kerianne Flynn, 45.
During a press conference after they returned, Gayle addressed critics by saying: “Anybody that’s criticising it doesn’t really understand what is happening here.”
Gayle, who has long feared flying, described the experience as transformative.
