With the season transitioning into summer, inspiration is all around us according to creative director of Beachcult Joanna Hedley.
The Capetonian is a big deal in the world of fashion and mixes it up with the biggest names of designers in the world, so you can take her word for it.
Hedley’s bohemian luxe swimwear designs were on display at the New York Fashion show right here in the Mother City on Friday, 11 October.
With models parading the latest summer dresses and bikinis at a glam event at the Marriot Hotel Crystal Towers, Hedley says of the ideas that lead to her designs: “You can get inspired by everything around you, even if it’s seeing a print on an umbrella or something bizarre, I will suddenly see that and extrapolate it into an entire new content.”
Also on display, among others, was the work of celebrity designer Michael Lombard, who is simply brilliant when it comes to working with leather.
Lombard’s collection can be described as “vicious”, stunning the audience with studded black and white leather.
Models walked the hotel’s platform in white leather/ silver studded dresses, leather jackets that have a futuristic design to it, leather pants with pleats, white insets and metal zips.
So wherever you are, whatever you do, take note of your surroundings, fashion ideas can come from the simplest of sources.
