There were a few kwaai surprises at the Carnival competition, including Cape Flats singing star Craig Lucas doing a sensational guest performance.
Troupes in Section One teams of the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association were in action at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Die ding het geruk as now both Section One and Two winners will be battling it out in the same division this year and there can only be one winner per section.
Saturday saw teams come out guns blazing, competing for the best in English Combined Chorus, Adult Sentimental, Juvenile Sentimental and Afrikaans Moppie items.

Each team brought the heat better than the one before.
The competition was fierce between the Exquisite Golden Gate Entertainers, Hazendal Entertainers, Titanic Bishop Lavis, Hip Hop Minstrels, Fabulous Seawinds, Cape Town Hawkers, Original D6 Hanover Minstrels, Fabulous Woodstock Starlites, Wild Apaches, The Last Tamahawks, Wild Comanches, Juvie Boy Entertainers, West London All Stars.
Mense were impressed with the performances of carnival kings, the Juvie Boy Entertainers, and West London All Stars.

“The atmosphere is amazing, so much activity and competition, strategy and passion on this field,” he said.
“Teams really brought their best to represent their brand.
“Everyone showed true sportsmanship.”
The Voice SA Season 2 winner, Craig Lucas, sang his hit song Smother in the Adult Sentimental section for Juvie Boy Entertainers.

Another treat was Second Runner-up on The Voice SA, Eon le Roux, representing Exquisite Golden Gates with the song Don’t Stop Believing.
Mense went bos for Fabulous Seawinds Juvenile Sentimental singer Buko Dyeshana, the 10-year-old doing a stunning rendition of the opera classic O Sole Mio.
