Comedian Wayne McKay brought the house down in Mitchells Plain on Friday night when he hosted the Wayne McKay and Friends Music and Comedy Show.
Mense were treated to a night of entertainment at Westridge Civic Centre when up and coming local talent shared the stage with seasoned performers like Vuvu Khumalo, August West, Jarrad Ricketts, Rezah Forbes, Keaunu Harker, Arlene Petersen and Lunga Tsuka, with Wayne as the MC.
Singer Vuvu kicked off the show with a bang when she performed a medley of old school hits.
Saxophonist August West from Elsies River received a standing ovation when he performed on both his sax and clarinet to a mesmerized audience.
A portion of the proceeds went to Hannah’s Place of Safety in Mitchells Plain, says Wayne.
“Hannah’s Place provides a safe haven for abandoned children. These children not only need proper care, but they also need to be fed and clothed, and come from parents or families who are either on drugs, alcohol addicted or abusive,” he explains.
Tracey Brown, from Hannah’s Place of Safety, thanked Wayne and all the artists who availed themselves to raise funds for the haven.

“We are grateful to Wayne and Friends for their contribution to helping make Hannah’s Place stronger and able to help the babies we receive. Every bit helps.
“We are inspired by August West. We received so many babies from Elsies River, and seeing him perform gives us hope for our babies.”
